What you keep from this order €15.74

38.2% of the sale excluding VAT

Step by step

    How the maths works

    1. Take the VAT (IVA) out of the price: the price divided by 1.21 if the rate is 21%. What's left is your sale. The VAT isn't yours: you pay it to the tax agency every quarter.
    2. From the sale excluding VAT, subtract what the product cost you, the shipping you pay, the gateway fee and what the ads for that order cost you.
    3. The result is what you keep from that order. The margin is that divided by the sale excluding VAT.

Every step is rounded to the cent, as on an invoice.

    What this calculation leaves out

    • Returns: a returned order takes away the sale and may cost you the return shipping.
    • The fixed costs of the business, such as your accountant, rent or the tools you pay for every month.
    • The self-employed social security fee (cuota de autónomos) and income tax (IRPF): they depend on what you earn in the year, not on each order.

It is a guide figure and assumes you can deduct the VAT on your purchases, which is normal under the general VAT scheme. It doesn't replace your accountant.
